Jordan Nall Mrs. Wombles English 1302 March 25, 2017 Gun Control versus Gun Rights Gun control is a controversial topic that is widely discussed in the United States. The call for gun control came during the 1960’s when many famous figures were assassinated. Today Gun Right’s Activist believes we should not infringe on the Second Amendment. While Gun Control Activist believe we should take precautions to protect people from gun violence. The republicans typically are against gun control while democrats are for gun control. Gun control is a hot topic in the United States, there are many organizations, politicians, and we the people are either for or against gun control. During the 1960’s there was a heightened amount of assassinations†¦show more content†¦So President Ronald Reagan signed the Firearm Owners Protection by 1968,(U.S. gun control timeline), and would be enacted to fix the problems of the Gun Control Act. Had it not been for this act the gun rights would be close to none. Gun Rights have been in existence since the beginni ng of our country with the second amendment being the right to bear arms. This was created to have the right to a well regulated militia, so that we will always have the access and the security of a free state. The second amendment also protects the right of the citizen to bear arms. People who support gun rights typically come from growing up in a culture where hunting is popular or have served in the military. Today the biggest advocate for gun rights in the United States would be the National Rifle Association. The NRA is one of the biggest promoters of the second amendment. They believe in the right to self-defense, and that the government should not impose many laws that would infringe on gun owners. They play a huge role in the government by advocating for the gun owners. There are also many other organizations that help promote the right to bear arms, including Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America, and Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.
